May Quotes by Elsie

Came around the corner to see this by the front door....Elsie explained that she was preparing to set sail on a boat and was "packing."  At least she knew to include a large number of underwear.

Mama:  "Elsie, do you want to go to the Gym today, or the Children's Museum?"
Elsie:  "The Gym!  Elsie LOVES the Gym!"
Later that day, on the way home from the Gym, where she had a great time:
Elsie:  "Mama, I think I didn't want to go to the Gym.  I think now I would rather go to the Museum.  Now we better go to the Children's Museum instead..."

Letter Elsie dictated to me to write to her cousin, Campbell, when new baby Piper arrived:
"My mama told me that you have a new baby sister.  When I first had a new baby sister I was sometimes really sad.  Are you sad?  I made you a friendly monster so you feel better.  Now my Baby Sylvie is bigger and I am really happy!"

Sweeping with Daddy- her t-shirt reads "Daddy Rocks!"

"Mama, are you drinking coffee in Kermit Car?  Please be careful!  Do not spill your coffee all over Kermit!  Be really careful, because the road makes Kermit bump, bump, bump and you do not want to spill on accident!"

While driving in the car...
Elsie:  "Mama, did you know that five plus one is SIX, and five plus two is SEVEN?"
Mama:  "That's right!"
Elsie:  "And did you know that five plus three is EIGHT?"
Mama:  "Where did you learn that, Elsie?"
Elsie:  "I just knowed it."

***

Mama:  "Elsie, you are just so lovely.  What would I ever do without you?"
Elsie:  "Mama, you would probably sleep."
So true....

Elsie: "Mama, sing the Red Moon Song...'O red moon, O red moon'.  You sang it to me when I was just a little baby!"
Mama: "I don't remember that.  I don't think I know the Red Moon Song- how does it go?"
Elsie:  "Hmmm.  I don't know, either.  When I grow really, really big, then I will know it, and I will sing it to you!"
***
Elsie's first joke:
Daddy:  "Elsie, guess who is coming to breakfast with us?  Uncle G and Auntie Kristin!"
Elsie:  "But Elsie doesn't LIKE Auntie Kristin!"
Daddy:  "You don't like Auntie Kristin?  Since when?"
Elsie:  "Hee hee hee hee hee!  Elsie DO like Auntie Kristin!"

In the tub, while playing with giraffe and lion animals, after a disturbing noise emerged:
Mama:  "Elsie, was that a toot or a poop?"
Elsie:  "That was just bubbles coming out of my bottom."
Mama:  "What were those bubbles doing in your bottom?"
Elsie:  "Those naughty bubbles were teasing my animals!"

Puddle Walk

The three ladies of the house attempted to go for a walk to the park on Wednesday afternoon, but before we were down the driveway it began to pour.  And pour.  Always the adventurers, we quickly switched our tennies for rain boots and embarked on a Puddle Walk.

Sylvie immediately fell asleep in her carrier- between the sound of my heart and the sound of the rain on our umbrella, we recreated a live version of her beloved sound machine and I am pretty sure she thought she had finally found the fabled Land of Sleep she'd been looking for since she was born.

Elsie was in her own personal Heaven, splashing and running with a dragon and frog in hand, filling her boots with water and giggling with glee.  We played for almost an hour before we saw Daddy coming home from work, soaking wet on his bicycle (no, he did NOT want us to pick him up in the car!).  A quick game of Chase Daddy ensued as soon as the bike was tucked in the garage.

The street flooded, Elsie lost her two-sizes-too-big boots a few times during particularly exuberant leaps, but we didn't come inside until the rain stopped and a little hungry tummy reminded us it was dinner time.

P.S.- Elsie and I took a shower together to warm up, and I learned that there is a lot of money to be made in a Loofah-on-a-Stick marketed at preschoolers.  Who knew?

A friendly encounter...

When Mama and Sylvie and I went to the zoo, we ran into my good friends Nico and Ellie! We played on the playground, and Nico took me on a train ride:

Nico tells me the plan..."I will be the conductor, and you will be the passenger!"

He watched very carefully to make sure I was seated and safe before he started the train...

"All aboard?  Hold on tight!  Toot toot!"

Sylvie Harriet at Two Months

At two months of age, Sylvie is a happy, cheerful little girl.  She loves to watch her big sister, kick on her play mat, and hang out in a baby carrier.

She weights 10 lbs 3 oz (11%) and is 21.5 inches long (20%) (for those interested, Elsie was 22 inches long and weighed 10 pounds, 10 ounces at this age).  She has kept most of her auburn hair, which sticks straight up (except right after a bath, when it is in tight little frizzes all over her head).

She is a happy traveler, and enjoys watching the clouds out the window while driving.  She likes busy days running around town with Mama and Elsie.

She loves to sleep, especially when swaddled in a woombie and laying in bed with Mama.  She wakes around 7 am, then naps from 9-11, again from 1-4, and again from 6-7 before going to sleep for the night around 9 pm.  She usually sleeps for a four hour stretch, then wakes every three hours to eat during the rest of the night.  She has, however, been known to sleep for five hour stretches and even one seven hour stretch.

She loves her Nuk, and prefers to have one (or two or three) with her at all times.  When her Nuk falls out of her mouth, she will improvise with a fist or some fingers.  She's also discovered the joy of waving toys in the air, and Elsie does her best to help when she drops one.

We are loving watching the two sisters grow up together- Elsie is becoming very nurturing to Sylvie (she cried along with Sylvie while she got her 2-month shots), and tries to "help" every time Sylvie is in need (nuk, milk, blanket, toy, it doesn't matter- Elsie wants to be the one to make Sylvie happy again!).

Take your offspring to work day!

There was an Under the Sea theme...I wasn't sure if some of the gummy fish on the buffet table were food or toys.

I really liked the great variety of fruits and cheeses, though!

Daddy took a picture with me in front of the ocean backdrop (my new turtle got a picture, too!)

And then we took another one of me jumping with Turtle.

Sylvie helped Daddy finish up some work on the computer....

Here she is telling him he should add a third monitor to maximize productivity (and coolness factor).

By the time we got home it was getting really nice out, so Turtle and I stayed outside and played on the swings!

Happy girl!

Why am I so happy, you ask?

Because I am eating frozen berries and playing with this girl, my best friend, A!

And just for fun, here are two more pictures of the two of us, almost exactly two years ago!

At the zoo...

"Elsie, it is time to leave the zoo.  We have been in the sun too long!"

"Mama, I will stand in this Mama Kangaroo, and she will keep the sun from getting me!"

"Well, I am still in the sun.  Sylvie and I cannot fit in the Mama Kangaroo, too!"

"Yes, Mama, but you two can go sit in the turtle shell, and he will keep the sun away from you!"

"That is a really good idea, but we still need to go home.  How about if I take Sylvie and we go stand in the shade while you play for two more minutes?"

"Yes, Mama.  You need to go stand over there, because right now you are sitting on the Mama Kangaroo's foot, and when you sit on her foot she can't hop.  She doesn't like that."

Late April Quotes by Elsie

While playing at her friend Simon's house in the evening:
Elsie:  "Mama, Elsie is very tired.  Maybe we should just stay here and I can go to sleep in Simon's bed tonight."
Mama:  "Simon needs to sleep in his own bed, and you do, too.  If you are tired, then we better go home so we can get ready for sleep."
Elsie:  "Oh, no.  Elsie's not tired."

***

Getting ready for our family photo shoot, Elsie decided her animals needed to be fancy, too.
***

While I am practicing the piano and Elsie is playing with her animals nearby:
"Mama, that is very pretty, but you are making me sad with that very sad, sad music.  These animals are happy, but I will have to hold this bunny because your pretty music is making him so very, very sad."

***

Upon seeing a puppy in the window of a car in the Woodman's parking lot:
"That puppy is so happy, he is waving to Elsie with his tail!"

***

While driving in the car, Elsie was concerned that she couldn't see the moon anymore.  Andy took a picture through the window on his phone and handed it to her, so that she could see the moon.  When the highway turned, the moon came back into view in her window.
"Hey, look!  The moon!  And the moon is here in my picture, too!  These two moons MATCH!"

***

At bedtime:
"Elsie had such a fun day, Elsie don't know HOW I will ever be able to fall asleep!"

***

***

After telling Elsie about the arrival of her new little cousin, Piper:
"Hooray!  And when my little Campbell cousin comes to Elsie's house, then I can say, "Hello, Piper!"

***

While making toots in the bathtub:
Daddy:  "It's funny to make toots in the tub, but please make sure they are just toots, and not poopers.  Toots are funny, but poop in the tub is not funny."
Elsie:  "But Daddy, look!  Those bubbles came out of Elsie's boonah!"

***

Daddy:  "Did you have any good dreams last night, Elsie?"
Elsie:  "No, Elsie did not.  I didn't even close my eyes!"
Daddy:  "You didn't sleep at all last night, huh?"
Elsie:  "No way!"

***

Sunday afternoon conversation:
Elsie:  "Where are we going today?"
Mama:  "Where do you want to go today?"
Elsie:  "We have to go to the hospital to buy three more little babies!"
Daddy:  "Three more?  That many?  I don't think they will all fit in the Kermit car!"
Elsie:  "Yes, they will fit.  You will hold one little baby, and Elsie will hold a little baby, and Mama will hold a little baby, and Baby Sylvie will be in her car seat.  Now let's go to the hospital to buy those little babies!"

Elsie's plan for a Wednesday afternoon...

"I have a great idea!  Maybe we can build a space ship and fly to the moon!  And we can play with the moon monsters!  They are green, and some have green polka-dots, and some are yellow with stripes.  They have one eye, or two eyes, or three eyes, Elsie thinks.  And they have nice pets.  The pets are brown, and have one leg, and they hop-hop-hop!  That would be a fun afternoon, I think.  That is my idea."
